The Buying process
– Behind the Scenes at Miljögården
Twice a year, we launch our collections – one for spring and one for autumn. But what really happens behind the scenes before the products reach our retailers and consumers? Here, we offer a glimpse into how a purchase comes together – from idea to finished product on the shelf.
The buying journey begins in Asia
At least twice a year, our purchasing team travels to Asia – primarily to China and India. The most recent trip went to China, where Jens and Joakim met with our suppliers and worked on developing products for upcoming collections.

The Creation of a Miljögården Product
It’s very rare that we purchase a product exactly as it is. Jens and Joakim almost always make changes – sometimes to the color, sometimes to the shape, and sometimes to both. Ideas are often sent to our suppliers in the form of drawings or sketches, which are then turned into samples. Inspiration comes from many sources and is blended into something uniquely our own – something that reflects the essence of Miljögården.
From Idea to Finished Product
Creating a product is a process where every step matters. Nothing happens on an assembly line – it’s about people, craftsmanship, and time.
Lead Time & Inventory
From the moment we place an order to the time the goods arrive at our warehouse, it can take 150–200 days – depending on the product, season, and shipping time. That’s why careful planning, timing, and strong collaboration with our suppliers are essential.

Our Goal
We develop our product range with great care and consideration. It should feel fresh, interesting, and inspiring – but also timeless. Creating products that can naturally transition between collections is very important to us.
Our hope is that our customers and retailers will love the products as much as we do, and that consumers will feel a genuine desire to bring them into their homes.
To us, every product is more than just an item – it’s a story of form, color, and emotion. And it’s a story we’re proud to share with you.
