Linseed oil / paint - Care instructions
Furniture painted with linseed oil paint – what can you expect?
Linseed oil paint gives furniture a vibrant, beautiful surface that ages with charm. Newly painted surfaces do, however, need time – the paint cures slowly and only becomes fully durable after a few weeks. During the first period, the furniture should be used with care and cleaned gently.
Once the surface has cured, it is best cleaned with mild, pH-neutral products. We recommend soap flakes or a mild soap. Avoid strong chemicals that may damage the paint.
On furniture used outdoors, linseed oil paint will gradually become matte due to the sun’s UV radiation. This is a natural process where the surface loses some of its gloss and the color may lighten slightly, especially with darker shades. A light application of oil can restore the surface’s sheen.
Over time, the paint may begin to chalk slightly, which is normal. For outdoor furniture that is frequently used, this may mean maintenance is needed a bit more often. When properly cared for, furniture painted with linseed oil paint provides durable protection and develops a beautiful, natural patina over time.
Cleaning surfaces painted with linseed oil paint
When cleaning a surface painted with linseed oil paint, choose gentle and pH-neutral products that will not damage the painted surface. Weak soap solutions work well. If the surface has been affected by algae or mold, use gentle products such as Biokleen Algae & Mold Remover.
Maintenance with boiled linseed oil on smooth planed surfaces
Clean the surface if needed with a mild soap solution and rinse thoroughly with water. Apply a very thin coat of boiled linseed oil or paint with a brush. Wipe off any excess oil after about half an hour, and the surface will regain its original color and luster.
